We track and analyze legislation affecting nurses in New Jersey, advocating for policies that:

Strengthen nurse workforce development

 Improve working conditions

Enhance patient care and safety

Current high priority bills (as of 01/2025)

  • Eliminates certain practice restrictions for advanced practice nurses. Allow full practice authority for advanced practice nurses. Currently, 27 states, the District of Columbia, and two U.S. territories have adopted full practice authority for advanced practice nurses.
    • 1/9/2024 - Introduced in the Senate, Referred to Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee
  • Establishes minimum registered professional nurse staffing standards for hospitals and ambulatory surgery facilities and certain DHS facilities. 
    • 2/12/2024 - Introduced in the Senate, Referred to Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee
  • Prohibits use of “Nurse” title by unlicensed person
    • 5/2/2024 - Introduced, Referred to Assembly Regulated Professions Committee
